Start audio in the Bible app you selected

In YouVersion’s main Bible app, choose the Bible tab and a version that offers audio, then use its speaker or play control. Audio availability can differ by version, book or testament. Confirm that this is the same app you selected for Prayer First’s Bible-app route.

YouVersion’s iPhone guide documents playback continuing while its app is in the background. That is useful for listening, but it is a different capability from Prayer First recognising time in an app.

YouVersion’s playback speed and audio stop timer control the recording. Neither replaces Prayer First’s reading target. Finishing a chapter, or playing it faster, does not establish that your configured app-time target has been reached.

Audio time and Bible-app time are different

Prayer First’s current implementation measures selected-app activity. On iPhone it uses Screen Time activity thresholds. Apple describes this activity as time an app is frontmost on screen. That is not a measurement of the recording you heard, your attention or your understanding.

Check the listening routine before depending on it

Android uses foreground activity intervals for selected Bible apps. Android’s activity events distinguish moving to the foreground from moving to the background; a media player continuing to sound does not establish another foreground interval.

Keep the test separate from driving, work that requires your attention or any situation where checking the phone would be unsafe. App versions, phone permissions and operating-system updates can affect the result. This guide explains the current measurement approach; it is not a device test of background or locked-screen listening.

  1. Choose a quiet time when you can check the phone safely, before today’s habit is already complete. Confirm your selected Bible app, the reading target and the minutes Prayer First currently displays.
  2. Start a passage with the selected Bible app visible and listen for a few minutes. Return to Prayer First, allow its progress display time to refresh, and compare the minutes. A brief glance is not a conclusive test.
  3. If you normally listen after switching apps or locking the screen, test that arrangement separately on another incomplete day. Note the starting minutes, then check them after listening. Do not infer progress from the audio controls.
  4. When the target appears reached, check today’s completion state and try a feed you selected to protect. Audio playback, displayed minutes and an actual unlock are separate things to verify.

If listening with the screen off is essential

Keep your audio Bible habit even if that arrangement does not add the minutes you expected. You can listen separately and choose another available Prayer First completion route, such as a journal reflection, if it suits your setup. A setup that requires Bible-app time still needs that route.

The paper Bible timer is designed for reading a paper Bible. It is not automatic audio tracking, and switching to it does not prove that a recording will count. Choose your reading method for its practical fit, then verify the unlock rather than trying to make playback controls stand in for app activity.

Try the habit on your phone

Prayer First puts selected feeds behind a daily Bible habit; its Bible-app route uses app activity rather than detecting audio playback.

Free to start. Optional paid features are separate.
